Idea
Paralect’s customer, Shegun Otulana, wanted to build a solution that would help mental ️health professionals streamline and manage their practices.
The major idea was to provide a solution that would automate and simplify daily routine tasks and avoid paperwork, thus allowing healthcare specialists to spend more time with their patients.
What we found out was that the mental and behavioral health, your counselors, your therapists, your clinical social workers, they weren’t getting the tools they needed to be first class citizens in the healthcare ecosystem.
One of the challenges was to ensure that the solution is affordable and easy to use. Mental healthcare specialists spend most of their time on repetitive everyday tasks such as taking notes and booking appointments, which, in turn, could be automated with practice management solutions.
However, the software available on the market was costly, and Shegun wanted to ensure that the solution is affordable for all mental health professionals, including small businesses and individual practices.
Prototype
After gathering the necessary requirements, it took 8 days for the Paralect team to design a UI prototype of a practice management platform intended to eliminate paperwork by handling major business processes such as client scheduling, treatment planning, progress notes taking, invoicing, and billing single-handedly.
We started our partnership with Paralect when developing a new product for a third party. Due to the team’s efforts and qualitative work, the final product became a success. It inspired me to continue collaboration with Paralect and develop TheraNest. Throughout this time, Paralect became a dependable partner that solved all the technical issues whilst still participating in the development of the product’s new features. Together we developed a solution that became a leading product in the sphere of mental healthcare.
MVP
The MVP was developed in 2 months. At first, the customer planned to provide the solution for two independent practices. However, the solution’s rich functionality, intuitive navigation, and efficiency contributed to the change of the business vision.
Shegun realized that the developed solution could provide value to even more healthcare specialists, streamlining all their operations. That’s why it was decided to transform the delivered solution into a SaaS platform.
It took two days for our team to convert the product into a SaaS platform. Paralect used Stripe to implement monthly and yearly subscription plans. Besides, our team developed multi-tenancy architecture in which separate instances serve different customers to reinforce data security.

Paralect continues its collaboration with TheraNest. We helped our customer to embark on a new subscription based model, and have gone beyond mere development to become full-stack long-term partners.
Together with the customer we analyze the product’s performance on the healthcare market. We feel personal responsibility for the product that we created, and plan to develop new features that will extend the functionality of the app. Currently, we plan to implement the following functionality:
Online therapy
Allows therapists and psychologists to communicate with their clients via a video chat, being able to provide qualitative treatment online.
Group payments
The possibility to make a single payment with multiple invoices and vice versa.
Automatic application registration & tracking in insurance companies
Includes automatic client status updates, also providing detailed descriptions and hints for the users.
